Sport Management PhD seminar in Denmark, 16th to 17th of September, 2012:

There are few vacant seats available for the PhD seminar prior to the 20th EASM conference. Therefore the deadline has been extended and will be open until the 10th of June unless the number doesn´t surpass 20 participants before this date. The GSM - Gesellschaft für Sportmanagement und Beratung mbH (sport management and consulting company) “analyzes, consults & supports“, “communicates & creates“, “organizes & markets”. Beneficiaries of our expertise include investors and operators of service-oriented companies in the sport, leisure and event industries.

Our clients and references include Racket Center Nußloch GmbH, the “Internationalen Herrentennismeisterschaften der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar um den MLP-Cup”, the “Manfred Lautenschläger Stiftung”, the “Ballschule/Universität für Sportwissenschaften Heidelberg”, the “EASM Jahreskonferenz 2008” and the “Sportstiftersymposium 2010 der Sportregion Rhein-Neckar“.

Additionally, GSM mbH received the award for best Internship Program 2010 in small and medium sized organizations. The main contractor and office location of GSM is Racket Center Nußloch near Heidelberg, considered one of the most elegant sport and leisure facilities throughout Germany.

GSM is looking for student employees to assist in our Sport- & Eventmanagement for the internship period of August 2012 to February 2013 (6 months) with the following duties:

Planning and execution of the world-ranked tennis tournament “MLP-Cup”

Development of event and marketing concepts for various business areas within GSM mbH and Racket Center Nußloch: Tennisakademie Rhein-Neckar, Zentrum Aktiver Prävention3 and RC PRO- Shop

Organize the winter campaign for Zentrum Aktiver Prävention3 of the Racket Center Nußloch

Assist with the in-house magazine RC Premium

Acquisition and retention of sponsors

Administrative assistance to company and department heads of GSM mbH and Racket Center Nußloch

The paid internship amounts to 400 €/month and furthermore includes lodging directly located in the Racket Center Nußloch and full access to all facilities (gym, tennis, squash, badminton, table tennis and spa).

Pre-requisites for the internship are a degree focus in Economics, Business Administration, Sport Economics or Sport Sciences with a residual time of no more than one year. Applicants are expected to be creative, committed, independent and team-oriented, as well as have sound knowledge of MS Office. German language proficiency required.

Senior Lecturer in Sport Management/Sport Marketing

At the Department of Sports Sciences, Malmö University, a full-time, tenured position as senior lecturer in Sport Management, specifically marketing, branding, and sponsoring, to be filled as soon as possible. This is the first position at the department that is exclusively dedicated to the study of sports economics. We are looking for a highly qualified researcher and educational professional to fill this position and develop this particular field of study within the multi-disciplinary environment of our department.

The Department of Sport Sciences

The position is at the Department of Sport Sciences (IDV), which educates students at the undergraduate as well as advanced levels, including PhD studies. Education and research at the Department is largely based on the social sciences and humanities. We are currently c. 40 scholars, educators and researchers including three full professors, with a background in history, political science, cultural geography, cultural studies, law, sociology of law, sociology, ethnology, psychology, economy, economic history, physiology, and physical education. We also work on collaborative projects and commissioned work, regionally, nationally and internationally. The department cooperates with some 450 partners outside the university.

Specialist tasks and areas of responsibility

The position is focused on the management and marketing of sports, including branding, sponsoring and related issues, and the successful applicant is expected to have knowledge of strategic management of sports-related activities and be able to analyze of the role of sport in the commercial entertainment industry, labor, tourism and regional development, and as a field of social innovation. The focus is sport, economics, law and organization, and societal trends such as the commercialization of sport, city marketing, sponsorship, sports business and sports as consumer culture. The tasks include teaching, research and development, and the successful applicant is expected to contribute to the scholarly environment, to attend and actively participate in seminars etc., as well as to contribute to the research community through with own scientific production and publishing, through participation at conferences and applying for research grants. Collaboration with actors beyond the research community is an integral part of the work at the department. The position demands the skills to lead the development

work that is of concern to the department, particularly issues relating to sport management.

Eligibility

To qualify for appointment as lecturer, applicants must have: - A PhD or equivalent qualification, or other skills that are important with regard to the subject matter and duties that is involved. - Pedagogical training equivalent to 15 credits or equivalent experience. - Pedagogical experience.

For appointment as lecturer, Malmö University also requires: -Ability to work with the community and to provide information about activities within the remit. - Ability to develop, implement and manage activities. - Good interpersonal skills.

For the current employment, documented ability to teach in English is required.

Assessment criteria

Evaluation of qualifications of applicants is the degree of expertise and capability that is required to qualify as above. Particular attention is paid to the scientific and pedagogical skills. These two areas of expertise are given equal importance in the assessment.

Further, the following gives additional advantage: - Documented experience of teaching in sport management/sport marketing. - Documented experience of teaching and research in multi-disciplinary environments, international experience in teaching and/or research, as well as experience in teaching and supervision at graduate and postgraduate level.
